A Guide to At-Home Tactical Training

Become one with your gun and gear in the comfort of your own home

When you are looking at getting involved with tactical training, there are plenty of courses on things like close quarters combat, long range training, training with night vision, and so on. Courses like that will teach you the fundamentals of how to maneuver in different situations with your gear on, and that can be extremely useful when it comes to all different types of survival situations. However, your training should not stop once your course is over, and in fact tactical training at home can be one of the most beneficial things you can do for yourself.

Let’s break down what tactical training at home is, why it is beneficial, and how you can incorporate it into your overall routine.

What is Tactical Training at Home?

Now, we do not mean loading up your AR-15 or your handguns with live rounds and setting up targets in the living room, as this is more than likely not going to yield the results you want, and you may end up getting the cops called on you.

Instead, taking the magazine out of your gun, making sure it is unloaded, and practicing clearing rooms and sweeping the whole house from basement to attic can be extremely beneficial. Though it may sound like you are playing pretend, it is in fact helpful to memorize the way you move and improve upon it.

Throwing on your plate carrier and helmet with your NVGs on them, picking up your rifle, and clearing out rooms can truly play into your survival during a dire situation. You also can utilize dry fire training, which is where something like the Mantis would come into play, but we will get to that later.

Why Tactical Training at Home is Beneficial

You may be wondering, why even train at home? Can’t you just attend a course from somewhere like Core Vision Training and that is enough? Sure, the trainings provided by organizations like Core Vision Training are great, and we highly recommend them, but those skills are meant to transfer over to your real life. That being said, the way you clear rooms at a Core Vision Training facility may be different than how you do so at home. The layout at a training facility is also probably different than it is at your own home, which is why it is important to get your reps in at your own home.

Think about it, with the way the world is now, there are a lot of bad people out there and the future is quite honestly unpredictable. When you are in your home, that is your kingdom, your castle, and you should be able to defend it no matter what type of threat ends up coming your way. If someone breaks in through the basement window, you should know how quickly you can throw on your body armor, grab your rifle or handgun, clear each room, and take care of the threat.

You should have a contingency for just about every scenario possible, whether you are facing a heavily armed opposition force that is invading and you have to clear your house and get to safety, or a simple robber that is looking to steal your valuables and maybe even cause harm to you. Your reaction time and the fluidity of your movements throughout your own home will determine the safety of you and your family.

Dry Fire Training at Home

Another important aspect of tactical training at home is dry fire training. Sure, loading your gun with an empty magazine and clearing the rooms of your house is beneficial, but there is no trigger reset with an empty mag. That being said, taking your at home tactical training to the next level with a product like Mantis is going to help further your chances of surviving an attack on your dwelling.

There are products like those from Mantis that will allow you to dry fire your rifle in your home. This means that you can get used to the feel of moving around your home with your weapon, without the risk of accidentally popping a shot off and injuring someone.

While Mantis offers a variety of different products, Core Vision Training offers the MantisX Blackbeard right on our site, so check out what they are below:

MANTISX BLACKBEARD

When doing your dry fire practice with your AR-15 rifle, you are going to want to go through it without having to run the charging handle between shots, so an auto-resetting trigger can be the perfect thing, which is where the MantisX Blackbeard comes in handy.

This is not a drop-in trigger kit that you can swap with your trigger, nor is it a modification to your existing trigger, but instead is a drop-in bolt carrier group and magazine that works with your existing trigger in your AR platform. It has the same weight, break, and reset, making it the perfect tool to condition yourself for sight height over bore holdover, failure drill, traversing multiple targets, and much much more. By using the MantisX Blackbeard, your dry fire practice just became 100x more effective and engaging.

The MantisX Blackbeard allows you to take up to 10 dry fire shots per second, quickly resetting the hammer between each shot. Installation takes less than a minute, as all you have to do is break open your AR, remove the bolt carrier group, drop in Blackbeard, close everything up, and put the magazine in place to provide the power. It's a 20 second change-out, and then you are free to dry fire away, counting how much money you're saving with every sweet trigger break and reset that you hear.

MANTISX BLACKBEARDX

Now, the MantisX BlackbeardX for AR-15 platforms takes the capability of the Blackbeard into an entirely new dimension. The BlackbeardX contains the MantisX technology that has changed the way shooters improve. It helps to provide real-time feedback on shooting technique, with smart coaching and actionable analytics via the MantisX Pistol/Rifle app, you'll never improve faster than with this powerful combination.

However there is much more than that. In addition to static shooting analysis, the MantisX BlackbeardX unlocks unprecedented capability to analyze and improve dynamic shooting: high-speed movement with multi-target engagements.  It sounds powerful because it is.  Nothing has ever analyzed your capabilities like this before.

Just like with the regular Blackbeard, the BlackbeardX installation takes less than a minute.  All you have to do is pop the rear pin, remove the bolt carrier group, drop in BlackbeardX, put the magazine in place to provide the power, and you are clear to dry fire!
